Circa 1925 Steel-Faced Driver

Not much is known about this very heavy, steel-faced driver. The maker’s mark appears to be a pointer dog, but it doesn’t match any of the companies known to use a dog for their mark. What we do know is that it was made for H.H. Gamble, who was the professional at Cobbs Creek in Philadelphia, 1924-1928. That helps us date this interesting club to the mid-1920s.

Obviously, the most unique aspect of this driver is the steel-face insert; it’s tight to the head and should play just fine. The club was rescued from a New Jersey attic in 2021 and is ready for play again in the hands of an accomplished - or confident - hickory golfer.
