Circa 1925 Ampco Driver

This circa 1925 socket-head driver was made by Ampco Metal Golf Co. of Milwaukee, WI. It features two of the proprietary metals that Ampco developed and used in their golf clubs. The head is made of their Dow Metal, which looks like aluminum but is actually much harder. The face insert is made from their Ampco Metal alloy, which the company claimed was harder than steel. This hardness, they said, would help the golf ball travel further than the conventional wood head of the day.

This particular example has been refurbished and has 10 degrees of loft with a swing weight of D1. The head is pinned to the shaft, which also bores through the head for a tight fit.

  • 10 degrees of loft, D1 swingweight, 43 inches long

  • New suede grip and whipping

  • Very good, playable condition
