Circa 1919 Spalding Medal
Brassie

This socket-neck brassie was made by the A.G. Spalding & Brothers and was part of their Gold Medal line, which was produced from 1905-1919. According to antique golf club expert Pete Georgiady, the Gold Medal line was released in response to Spalding receiving a gold medal for their outstanding sporting goods display at the 1904 Louisiana Exposition. It was a popular and economical line of golf clubs produced in many variations up until 1919.

I estimate this particular example dates to the later range of the Gold Medal line. With 13 degrees of loft and D2 swing weight, it’s the ideal brassie to use off the tee and from the fairway and suitable for beginning and expert hickory golfers alike.

  • 13 degrees of loft, D2 swingweight, 43-1/2 inches long

  • New suede grip, new whipping - set up for play

  • Great condition - very slight bend in shaft near grip that pushes hands forward a bit at address
