Circa 1920s Five-Club Starter Set

If you’re looking for an affordable and authentic way to play hickory golf, look no further than this five-club mixed set of irons made in the 1920s and fully refurbished for hickory golf play. The short set features two clubs made by Burke, and single clubs made by Treman King & Co., and Hillerich & Bradsby. While they’re considered “common” clubs from a collectible perspective, they do have optimal swing weight for play and make a perfect beginner’s set of irons for someone interested in playing hickory golf with authentic clubs.

  • Dave McIntosh chrome-plated Midiron (maker unknown) : 23 degrees of loft, D0 swing weight, 38-3/4” playing length)

  • Burke Stainless Mashie Iron: 29*, D0, 38”

  • Treman King & Co. “Cayuga” Mashie: 40*, D5, 37-3/4”

  • Burke Niblick sold by Big League Sporting Goods, NY: 49*, E2, 36-1/2”

  • Hillerich & Bradsby Co. Putter: 8*, C4, 34-1/4”

Refurbishment includes surface rust removal, resetting of the head with epoxy, repinning with 1/8"-inch brass rod, wood shaft reconditioning, a new leather grip (rough side out), and fresh whipping thread where necessary.
